SUCCESS STORY #2

Situation:

Client is elderly and family members take turn assisting her to live independently in her home. Client’s home is 45 plus years old. Her main complaint was the house was cold and drafty and it did not have insulation.  Client’s energy burden was running 26% to 30% of her income.  Weatherization Program Specialist determined client was eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and Heating Appliance Repair or Replacement Program.

Goodman Heating System is installed.

Action:

An energy audit done by WAP revealed that the client was living in a very dangerous atmosphere. The client, who is on oxygen, was using a gas space heater to heat her home. WAP's Weatherization Specialist explained the potentially dangerous situation with the combined use of the combustible materials (gas and oxygen) used in the home to her and family members. WAP also contacted a Rehabilitation Specialist at Cumberland County Community Development (CCCD) who came out immediately to evaluate client for their emergency repair program. Specialists from WAP and CCCD explained to client and family members that weatherization could not take place until the heating system was replaced. CCCD installed a Goodman Heat Pump HVAC unit. The following weatherization measures were installed on client’s home: 1) blower door directed air sealing; 2) attic insulation; 3) patched holes in wall and ceiling; and 4) installed energy saver items.

Result:
