Student eNERGY INTERNSHIP Program
JULY 23, 2010--Sustainable Sandhills is pleased to announce that the organization has received $165,200 in grant funds from the North Carolina State Energy Office to support eight full-time, paid, green energy internships. View press release.
Information for Intern Candidates
The program will match a group of eight talented full-time, paid interns with host organizations for 42-week on-the-job internships focused on energy conservation and efficiency. The key Partners and corresponding internships include:
Sustainable Sandhills: Four interns will certify businesses, schools and local governments in the Sustainable Sandhills Certified Green Business and Schools program in the 8 county Sandhills region. SS Internship description.
The City of Fayetteville Environmental Services Department: Two interns will complete Building Energy Audits and Energy Conservation Plans for 200,000+ square feet of City-owned facilities. COF Internship description.
Cumberland County Schools: Two interns will work with the CCS district operations to implement the joint CCS / Sustainable Sandhills Go Green Initiative at the 88 public schools in Cumberland County. The Go Green Initiative teaches earth-friendly behaviors by students and staff, including energy and water conservation, solid waste reduction, local food production in school gardens, and healthy and active lifestyles. Eligibility
The State Energy Office seeks to place students and recent graduates from NC educational institutions in green energy-related internships and fellowships. A recent graduate is defined as someone who has graduated within the preceding three years. A student is defined as an individual currently enrolled on a full-time basis in an accredited institution of higher education in NC or a community college under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Community Colleges. Students who are permanent residents of NC but are enrolled on a full time basis in an accredited institution of higher education outside of NC are also eligible to participate in these programs. Recent graduates of accredited institutions of higher education outside of NC who are permanent residents of NC are also eligible to participate in this program. “Accreditation,” for purposes of this program, means an educational institution that is accredited by one of the six regional accrediting bodies recognized by the federal Department of Education.
The Interns will be paid $12.50 per hour.
The Interns will be responsible for providing their own transportation, insurance, and cell phone. A safe and secure workplace and the equipment required to successfully complete the internship will be provided by the host organizations.

- Initial interviews will be scheduled between 8/30/2010 and 9/10/2010.
- The projected start date for the Internships is 10/11/2010.
- The projected end date for the Internships is mid-August 2011.
